20 Realistic New Year’s Resolution Ideas that are Actually Achievable

by | Dec 30, 2020 | Lifestyle | 0 comments

Wow…can you believe it’s almost 2021??

Is it me or does it feel like this year was both super long and super short at the same time?

Since we are so close to a fresh start, there is no better way to kick off the new year than to have a list of resolution goals for 2021.

I always hear people talking about New Year’s resolution ideas they have, but then they never actually end up doing them.

But why?

So many people create goals for themselves that are so far in the future, and that makes it really hard to achieve progress step by step.

I’m not here to give you some “Instagram influencer” resolutions that look good on paper.

I am going to give you some realistic New Year’s resolution ideas that you will actually be able to achieve in real life.

Some of these resolution ideas may be small. Others will be bigger, bolder steps you can take.

Either way, we want 2021 to be the year of positive change!

Who’s with me?

I don’t know about you, but there are a lot of things I want to accomplish in 2021, both big and small.

If you’re sitting there with absolutely no idea of what you want to accomplish for the new year, here are 20 realistic resolution ideas to get you started!

1. Drink 3 more cups of water a day to stay hydrated.

As basic as it may sound, remembering to stay hydrated is harder than it may seem. Make the effort to drink a few more glasses of water per day this year to stay as hydrated as possible.

There’s nothing that fuels the body better than some H20.

2. Workout at least 3 times a week to get in the best shape ever.

If you’ve been wanting to start a fitness journey, now’s the time. Whether you begin with a workout once a week or twice a week, aim to really go hard this upcoming year so that you can get in the best shape of your life.

Aim for at least 3 workout sessions per week, and make sure to give it your all every time!

3. Eat out less than usual.

I’m sure we all have the bad habit of loving our McDonald’s or Chick-Fil-A or any other delicious restaurant.

The reality is that eating out often is really unhealthy.

This resolution idea isn’t telling you to cut out ALL foods from restaurants, but make the conscious effort to cut down the number of times you eat out.

Trust me…you’ll see a difference.

4. Experiment with cooking healthy but delicious meals at home.

This resolution idea goes hand in hand with the previous one. A healthier life overall can actually be a fun adventure.

Try experimenting with new, healthier recipes that you cook yourself at home.

Go for 2 home cooked meals per week, and have fun trying out new and different tastes.

5. Get an extra hour of sleep each night.

We could all work on our sleeping habits.

Whether it’s staying up watching TV or perusing social media, lots of us don’t get the proper amount of sleep per night.

The perfect solution is to aim for an extra hour of sleep per night in 2021.

Trust me…you’ll be happier, healthier, and much less cranky!

6. Ask for a promotion at work to move up the ladder.

As intimidating as it may be, 2021 is the perfect year to ask your boss for a promotion at work.

Go in there, make a case for why you deserve it, and make sure your boss knows you are worth the next level.

7. Switch to decaffeinated coffee slowly but surely.

This resolution idea may be a bit trickier thanks to coffee’s addictive nature.

Make the effort to slowly switch to decaf coffee eventually.

Start with one cup per day until you can finally make the full transition.

8. Pay off credit card or student debt (or both).

There is no reason to keep putting off a financial resolution like this.

It doesn’t matter how much money you make, there are always small steps to take towards becoming debt-free.

Now is the time to really make the push towards paying off credit card or student debt.

You can do it! Millions of people already have! You got this!

9. Start a side hustle for some extra income.

I don’t know anyone who would say no to some extra crash coming in.

Whether it’s a virtual or online side hustle or a legitimate storefront business, there are plenty of ways nowadays to make some extra moolah for yourself and your family.

Start that side hustle now so that you aren’t saying no to that extra income!

10. Drink less soda products per week.

This one is a doozy! So many of us love our delicious, fizzy soda products (including myself), so I know how hard it is to try and cut down.

There is no excuse not to try.

Aim to cut down your soda intake by 50% this year. If you drink two per day, try cutting out one soda.

I know it’ll be hard, but it’s one of the healthiest things you can do for your body!

11. Donate whatever you can to a charity at least once a month.

No matter where you are financially, it is always a good feeling to know you are helping others.

Whether your donation is clothes, money, food, or anything else….every bit counts!

There is no better time than 2021 to try and be a better person for others.

12. Approach everything with a more positive, optimistic mindset.

Kick negativity out of your life!

When you face a problem or obstacle, try approaching it with a more positive mindset.

You’ll be surprised how much positivity can impact your life in ways you won’t even notice!

13. Cut your social media daily use by a few hours per day.

Oh, goodness! This one is probably the most important resolution on the list.

Social media has taken over our social lives and cut us off from what’s really important.

This isn’t to say you should delete all your social media right now, but make the effort to spend less time on your phone and more time with the friends and family who are actually around you!

14. Become a tidier person by learning simple organization skills.

Why wait to become a neater person?

There are so many organization tips and hacks that will slowly transform you into a tidier human being.

Who wouldn’t want that?

15. Aim to be a more punctual, “on time” person.

If you are using to procrastinating or arriving late, now’s the time to fix that.

There is nothing worse than being that person who arrives to an event 30 minutes late (or even later than that….yikes).

Start making the effort to be on time to events, functions, and anything else with a time frame 😉.

16. Spend more time with close friends and family.

Being around the people who love you most is the best way to make your heart happy!

Whether it’s Taco Tuesdays with your family or Saturday dinners with your best friend, try to spend more time per week with the relatives that keep you the most grounded.

After all, there’s nothing more important than family!

17. Save for at least one vacation during the year.

We all love the sound of taking a nice vacation somewhere to just relax and wind down.

2021 is the perfect time to start planning at least one vacation for the year.

Save up, plan it, and go travel somewhere that’ll make life worth it!

18. Quit smoking…everything.

Whether it’s cigarettes, vaping, or whatever else exists out there….stop smoking.

Just stop!

It’s ruining your lungs whether you believe it or not.

Make the effort to decrease the amount that you smoke per day, and you’ll immediately start noticing a difference in your health.

19. Take an hour per week to pamper yourself.

Like I said in my self-care ideas article, you shouldn’t feel guilty for pampering yourself every once in a while.

Don’t let life drag you through the mud. Aim to take an hour per week (at least) to do a self-care activity that makes you calm and happy!

20. Go for a walk three times a week.

Nature has its own way of calming the mind and resetting the soul.

I know that sounds cheesy, but it is true.

Try to go for a walk somewhere at least three times a week.

Not only will the fresh hair make you feel refreshed, but a brisk walk can double as a workout session 😉.
