Whether they’re baby steps or larger lifestyle leaps, this list will get you started on your quarantine weight loss journey.
Without further ado, let’s get into the quarantine weight loss tips.
1. Get Lots of Sleep
Just because we are all forced to stay at home doesn’t give us an excuse to Netflix and Chill until 3 a.m.
Chances are you have sacrificed healthy sleeping habits one way or another during the past 10 months of quarantine.
That’s a big no no!
If you want to lose the quarantine weight, you need to do some snoozin. Sleep is a huge factor in weight loss, so it’s important to keep your bodily sleeping rhythm in check.
You need to be getting at least 8 hours of sleep per night.
If that doesn’t sound like your routine, then that would be the best place to start!
2. Get Dressed Every Day
Whether you’re studying or working from home, it is important to feel put together and ready to conquer the day.
Let’s face it. That sense of productivity is impossible if you’re lounging all day in your pj’s.
Make it a habit to get dressed in comfy, real clothes every morning so that you can create some pep in your step.
You might not think this is related to how to lose the quarantine weight, but feeling ready for the day will increase your energy and give you motivation to get moving.
3. Plan Your Meals
I can’t stress the importance of planning your meals ahead of time.
When you are pressed for time and can’t make a meal on the spot, that’s when we all feel compelled to order some fast food or GrubHub some Chick-fil-A.
Stocking up your fridge with healthy foods for quick meals will allow you to predict what you will eat every single day.
Not only will you save yourself money by not eating out as much, but you’ll subconsciously be living a healthier lifestyle by eating at home.
4. Make time to Exercise
When in quarantine, there is literally no “I don’t have time” excuse to make anymore.
We all have chunks of time to do different things during the day.
Just because there’s a global pandemic around doesn’t give anyone an excuse not to exercise.
Whether it’s 30 minutes on the treadmill or an hour-long jog, try to do a workout session at least three times a week.
Depending on how much weight you’re looking to lose, your cardio workouts will vary.
Either way, losing the quarantine weight will depend on two factors: your diet and exercise routine.
If you haven’t been working out much lately, this is the tip you will want to implement ASAP.
5. Don’t Buy Junk Food
The key to eating healthy is buying healthy!
Imagine having a pantry full of chips and cookies when you are trying to get mean and lean.
It’s like waving a cookie in front of a child’s face and telling them they can’t have it.
How unfair!
Now, I’m a big proponent of the “everything in moderation” mantra.
Cutting all the yummy stuff out of your life cold turkey is going to be a bad, bad thing.
It’s ok to have a few “naughty” snacks that’ll serve as your treat a few days out of the week.
But…don’t stock your pantry up with foods that are going to constantly tease you.
If you want to lose weight, you’ll have to make 90% of your diet super healthy (until you reach your goal weight).
The other 10% will be those yummy cheat meals 😉.
6. Drink Water
Drink water, people!
Working and staying at home can make it really easy to forget hydration.
Staying hydrated is not only beneficial for weight loss, but its really good for the skin, the brain, and everything else in your body.
I always keep a jug of water next to me no matter what I’m doing so I can be reminded to drink, drink, drink!.
7. Control Your Stress
Alrighty, being stressed is not a good thing!
Stress and weight loss go hand in hand.
When you’re stressed, your lifestyle choices slowly but surely go downhill.
We don’t want that!
There’s a simple solution that will help deal with stress levels: self-care.
I’m a huge believer that pampering yourself every once in a while will reset your mind.
Self-care doesn’t have to be super high maintenance or extensive. You can do something for yourself in just 5-10 minutes that’ll be uber relaxing!
If you want some easy and quick self-care ideas, read this article.
8. Set Small Goals
This tip is really important because it’s all about mindset.
Don’t go into your weight loss journey with a goal to lose 30 pounds in a week.
It’s just not doable.
It’s important to make small goals for yourself and to stay consistent.
Those two components are really important for seeing results.
Start out with a goal of losing 1 pound per week using methods listed in this article.
Then, increase those goals as you start to see success!
Most importantly, stay positive! You can and will lose the weight!
9. Be Sustainable
In order for you to see results, you have to use methods that are sustainable.
Don’t try to take shortcuts that aren’t long-lasting.
When you lose the weight, you want to keep off the weight.
That’s only going to happen when you use healthy, moderate methods that are doable long term.
Don’t get sucked into Instagram trends that promise fast and easy weight loss.
You are going to have to put in the work to see results.
That’s just how life works.
But I promise you it’ll be super rewarding knowing that you were the one to make all the progress.
I promise! Just stick with it and it’ll be totally worth the work!
10. Less social media….more movement breaks!
It’s the small changes that count.
Instead of spending your work or study break stuck on the couch scrolling through Instagram, go out for a walk or incorporate a small workout.
Losing weight isn’t just about making huge lifestyle changes.
Getting up and moving around as often as possible will burn more calories than Instagram ever will!
Trust me, social media will still be there when you get back!
Take advantage of any and every opportunity you have to move your body.
The weight loss will be all the thanks you need!
Well my friends, those are my 10 tips on how to lose the quarantine weight.
Don’t get discouraged as your start and continue your weight loss journey.
Many of us (if not all) have gone through it before, so you can do it too!
